PAS 71st MUKTAMAR IN KEDAH: UNITY OF THOUGHT, SPIRIT AND HISTORY OF STRUGGLE
By: Khairul Faizi bin Ahmad Kamil
Kedah once again becomes the focal point of Islamic politics in Malaysia as the PAS Kedah Complex in Kota Sarang Semut has been chosen to host the 71st PAS Annual Muktamar from 11 to 16 September 2025.
This six-day gathering brings together thousands of delegates, observers, and supporters from across the nation, reigniting the spirit of struggle while also contributing to the local economy.
For the first time, all PAS wings will convene simultaneously in the state known as Malaysia’s “Rice Bowl.” The Youth Muktamar (11–12 September), Muslimat Muktamar (13–14 September), and the climax, the Central PAS Muktamar (15–16 September), will be held at the Kedah PAS Complex. Meanwhile, the Ulama Muktamar, DHPP Convention, and As-Sabiqun Assembly are scheduled on 13 September at various venues across Kedah.
Since 1951, Kedah has hosted the Muktamar six times. From the era of Lebai Pak Man Bukit Besar (1962), Ustaz Fadzil Noor’s leadership (1984), Ustaz Azizan’s administration (2006), the post-Pakatan Rakyat period (2017) to PAS regaining Kedah in 2022, the state remains a historic stage of Islamic struggle.
This year’s Muktamar also features the election of the PAS Central Working Committee for the 2025–2027 term, conducted in harmony without power tussles, reflecting the discipline and tarbiyah that form the party’s strength.
Adding significance, the event coincides with Visit Kedah Year 2025. The organizing committee has established a Tourism Information Unit to promote Kedah’s attractions, while the “Mai Kenai Kedah” Carnival offers cultural performances, sports, and people’s markets.
Two landmark developments will be recorded: amendments to the PAS Constitution recognizing new membership categories, PAS Members and Associate Members and the official recognition of DHPP and As-Sabiqun as party wings after this Muktamar.
The official logo, chosen through an open competition, symbolizes patriotism, Islamic struggle, and Kedah’s identity. The Malaysian and PAS flags form the number 71, rice stalks represent the state, and the Alor Setar Tower stands as a proud landmark.
PAS President Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang once emphasized, “This Muktamar is not merely an annual assembly but a platform to renew our commitment to the struggle, to chart the way forward, and to prove that Islam offers solutions for the ummah and the nation.”
From the lush paddy fields of Kota Sarang Semut, this Muktamar bears witness that the Islamic struggle endures. Kedah once again raises the torch of unity, bridging generations, embracing non-Muslim allies, and strengthening strategies toward GE16.
The shout of takbir will resound, carrying the conviction that Islam will prevail. From Kedah, PAS marches forward for a prosperous Malaysia.
